Medtronic Launches Titanium-Coated Peek Interbody Fusion Devices Worldwide

October 21, 2014

Medtronic has launched its pure titanium coating, or PTC, platform of interbody fusion devices for the spine in global markets, offering new pain relief options for patients suffering from spinal compression.

The line of devices — which help to restore normal disc height by reducing pressure on the nerve roots and spinal cord — consists of the Capstone PTC Spinal System, Clydesdale PTC Spinal System, Anatomic Peek PTC Cervical Fusion System and Cornerstone-SR Ti-Coated Anatomical Cervical Cage.

The PTC interbody fusion devices made from titanium and polyetheretherketone, giving them both strength and elasticity.

The Capstone and Clydesdale systems received FDA 510(k) clearance in March and rolled out in the U.S. in August. The two systems were also CE-marked in July. The Anatomic Peek cleared the FDA and launched in September; it is intended for U.S. use only, the company said. Its European counterpart, the Cornerstone, was CE-marked and launched in July.
