Revolutions Medical Donates 50,000 Safety Syringes to AmeriCares

October 27, 2014

Charleston, S.C., devicemaker Revolutions Medical has donated 50,000 of its RevVac safety syringes to the AmeriCares Foundation, a nonprofit disaster relief and humanitarian relief organization. The syringes will be used in AmeriCares’s 700-plus health centers and by medical teams traveling to West Africa to help fight the Ebola outbreak, the company said. The health centers serve uninsured and underinsured patients at more than 200 percent below the federal poverty level.

The donation will go a long way towards protecting frontline health workers, said AmeriCares President and CEO Michael J. Nyenhuis.

Thomas Beahm, director of Revolutions Medical, said RevVac’s vacuum technology eliminates the need to remove the needle from the spent syringe, decreasing the chance of an accidental needle stick and blood splatter and reducing the risk of spreading diseases like Ebola, hepatitis B and C, syphilis and HIV. — Kellen Owings
