Hospira Launches Plum 360 Infusion System Following FDA Clearance

January 22, 2015

Hospira announced Tuesday the U.S. launch of its newest infusion device, the Plum 360, following the receipt of 510(k) clearance from the FDA. Units, which feature Hospira’s MedNet safety software, will be available nationwide within the next few weeks, the company said.

According to the Lake Forest, Ill., devicemaker, the Plum 360 builds on the air management and secondary delivery features of Hospira’s Plum A+ device, while increasing the compatible drug library and wireless capabilities. For safety purposes, the 360 defaults to the Hospira MedNet drug library, which updates wirelessly and can be quickly searched with an attached keypad.

The pump’s smart secondary delivery feature enables it to distinguish between primary and secondary infusion lines and deliver medication as intended, Hospira said. Its exclusive air management feature allows air to clear from the line without having to disconnect the pump from the patient. — Kellen Owings
