Roche, Qualcomm Team Up on Remote Patient Monitoring

January 30, 2015

Swiss diagnostics giant Roche is partnering with Qualcomm Life to improve remote monitoring and management of chronic disease patients, the firms announced last week.

Roche will use Qualcomm’s wireless 2net Platform to capture data from a patient’s medical device — beginning with anticoagulation meters — and transmit the information to Roche’s cloud-based service. The platform helps physicians track their patients’ treatment and progress, reducing complications and cost of care, Qualcomm said.

The remote monitoring system is also expected to drive patients to better manage their health, the companies said.

Combining Qualcomm’s connected health solutions with Roche’s point-of-care expertise marks an important step forward in Roche’s connected care strategy, said Jeremy Moss, senior vice president of point of care at Roche Professional Diagnostics. — Kellen Owings
