Smith & Nephew Acquires Columbian Distributor

Smith & Nephew has acquired EuroCiencia Colombia, its distributor for orthopedic reconstruction, trauma and sports medicine products in the country. ECC has been Smith & Nephew’s sole distributor in Colombia since 2006, the devicemaker said Wednesday.

The acquisition is in line with the London devicemaker’s strategy to supplement organic growth through acquisitions. In recent years, the firm has also purchased distributors in Brazil, Turkey and India.

CEO Olivier Bohuon said the acquisition provides Smith & Nephew with a successful platform to accelerate growth in Colombia, one of Latin America’s largest markets. By increasing resources in the country and establishing direct relationships with customers, the company is more able to fulfil their needs and provide enhanced service, he added.
