FDA Drug Shortages App Now Available

Drug shortage information is now available to anyone with an Android or iPhone.

The FDA mobile app, launched last Wednesday, gives information on current drug shortages, resolved shortages and drug product discontinuations and is part of the agency’s strategic plan for handling shortages.

Under the strategic plan, drugmakers must report to the agency anytime they suspect a drug could eventually face a shortage or be discontinued.

The free app is searchable by generic name or active ingredient and can be browsed by therapeutic category, the FDA says. The app also allows users to communicate directly to the agency any suspected shortage or supply issue. — Bryan Koenig
