EchoPixel Takes Off Following Virtual Reality Platform FDA Clearance

March 24, 2015

Medical devicemaker EchoPixel launched the world’s first platform capable of transforming anatomical data into interactive, three-dimensional virtual reality images on Tuesday, following 510(k) clearance of its True3D Viewer.

True 3D allows doctors to interact with specific body parts in an open 3D space, bringing MRI scans, CT scans and DICOM imaging to life, said the Mountain View, Calif., company, claiming that the device has been demonstrated to improve medical operation speed and effectiveness across a range of procedures.

Previously, doctors were able to study patient anatomy only by mentally putting together information from multiple screens, said EchoPixel’s CEO Ron Schilly. That process doesn’t provide a realistic look inside a patient.

In addition to medical professionals, the devicemaker plans to give patients access to this technology, hoping to provide them with a better understanding of their anatomy.

True 3D uses virtual reality technology formerly reserved for the entertainment industry and reconstitutes it for medicine, said Sergio Aguirre, founder and CTO of EchoPixel. — Jason Scott
