Zimmer Unveils Modular External Fixation System

March 30, 2015

Zimmer has announced the release of its XtraFix modular external fixation system which gives trauma surgeons the ability to eliminate surgical steps, and the number of bars and clamps, from external fixation procedures. Available in small (6mm) and large (11 mm) systems, the new device results in better efficacy by cutting costs, surgical steps and time, the Warsaw, Ind., company said Friday.

Importantly, the 6mm system allows surgeons to connect small and large systems using only a single clamp, which means doctors can treat small extremity fractures in larger constructs, the devicemaker added.

Furthermore, the XtraFix’s 3D Bar/Pin-to-Bar/Pin design ensures pins can be put where the fracture necessitates because the device’s flexible configurations means constructs need fewer components. — Jason Scott
