FDA, Biomedical Engineering Society to Hold Joint Conference

April 1, 2015

The FDA and Biomedical Engineering Society will hold a May 18-20 public meeting in Hyattsville, Md., to discuss strategies that use computational modeling and simulation in the development and evaluation of medical devices.

Topics to be discussed include:

  • Model foundation for device design ideation;
  • Concept development and design optimization;
  • Modeling for robust design;
  • Design verification and validation;
  • Patient specific design;
  • Integration of modeling with clinical studies; and
  • Modeling and device commercialization.

According to today’s Federal Register notice, computer modeling can revolutionize medical device development by rendering multiple use conditions and complex processes and data. These methods have the potential to augment traditional evaluation models — specifically, bench, animal and human.
