Biotronik Launches Pantera Pro Balloon Catheter in Europe

April 3, 2015

German-based devicemaker Biotronik announced Wednesday the European launch of its Pantera Pro coronary balloon catheter after receiving CE Mark approval in January.

The Pantera Pro, available in diameters from 1.25 mm to 4.0 mm and lengths from 6 mm to 30mm, is a next-generation semi-compliant catheter balloon developed to dilate stenotic segments in coronary arteries or bypass grafts, the company said.

The device’s new, slimmer design and hydrophilic coating is an overhaul of Biotronik’s existing Pantera catheter. It provides better access to lesion sites and maximizes proper dilation, the devicemaker added.

In a multicenter clinical trial, more than 700 Pantera Pro procedures were performed across 13 countries, with physicians indicating that the device has a performance rate 68 percent better than other semi-compliant balloon catheters, the company claims. — Jason Scott
