Synaptive’s BrightMatter Guide System Receives FDA Clearance

April 9, 2015

Neurosurgical navigation tool BrightMatter Guide system won FDA clearance, Synaptive announced Wednesday.

The system provides 3D visual images of the brain. During a surgery, the device places images over an anatomical scan, providing the means to visualize inside the brain, the Canadian devicemaker said.

The BrightMatter Guide is a GPS for the brain, Synaptive President Cameron Piron says.

The system is meant to work in tandem with the devicemaker’s Vision and Drive systems.Vision increases the visual capacity for complex surgeries and Drive features a robotic arm that keeps optics and lights at their key points during a procedure.

In March, Synaptive acquired Clear Canvas, gaining access to imaging technologies and boosting its healthcare professional customer base by an estimated 30,000. — Jason Scott
