The Medicrea Group Launches Spinal Fixation Band in U.S.

May 8, 2015

Spinal implant devicemaker The Medicrea Group has launched its second-generation LigaPASS band connector technology for thoracolumbar fixation in the U.S. market. The device is cleared for use to treat adolescent idiopathic and neuromuscular scoliosis in children over age 10 and adults, the firm said Friday.

The technology offers surgeons a safe and efficient alternative to screws and hooks that allows translation and derotation of vertebral bodies, Medicrea says. The system also features an extended range of connectors and a band with a narrower malleable tip to allow for safe passage underneath the lamina.

The LigaPASS 2.0 is universal, as every connector can be used with the most common spinal rod diameters available on the market, Medicrea adds.

Over the last two years, more than 5,000 LigaPASS systems have been implanted worldwide, according to the company. — Kellen Owings
