Mednax to Acquire vRad

In a deal valued at $500 million, Mednax is expected to acquire radiology physician services and telemedicine company vRad. Eden Prairie, Minn.-based vRad announced the deal Tuesday, with the transaction expected to finalize this quarter.

vRad’s current management team will stay at company headquarters; operations and client support will continue to be based there as well.

vRad interprets more than 5 million patient studies each year, as well as processing more than 1.2 billion images using its teleradiology PACS. It has more than 2,100 client hospital, health system and radiology group centers.

Mednax specializes in maternal-fetal, newborn, pediatric subspecialty and anesthesia physician services. Through affiliated corporations, the company employs more than 2,675 physicians across 34 states and Puerto Rico. — Jason Scott
