First Patient Receives 3D Printed Cervical Titanium Structure Implant

May 19, 2015

A patient suffering from degenerative cervical spine problems has been treated with a 3D printed titanium fusion implant— the first procedure of its kind, says German-based devicemaker Emerging Implant Technologies.

The company claims the implant’s manufacturing method enables it to successfully mimic the bone structure, without the need for an added bone graft.

In about two to three years, EIT will be offering individualized implants at a reasonable cost, says CEO Stephanie Eisen. — Jason Scott
