Varian Medical Systems, Flatiron Health Forge Oncology Software Partnership

May 27, 2015

Varian Medical Systems and Flatiron Health have entered into a strategic partnership to develop next-generation cloud-based, electronic health record, data analytics and decision support oncology software, the two companies announced Tuesday. Together, they hope to offer cancer software solutions from screening to survivorship.

As part of the deal, the two companies will market OncoEMR, a Flatiron cloud-based cancer EHR that includes an integrated pathway from several organizations. The software includes managed clinical content such as NCCN Chemotherapy Order Templates. OncoEMR will be configured to run alongside Varian’s Aria oncology information system later this year.

Based in Palo Alto, Calif., Varian specializes in manufacturing radiation-based cancer products. It markets devices for radiotherapy, radiosurgery, proton therapy and brachytherapy. The company operates manufacturing sites in North America, Europe and China.

Flatiron creates cloud-based platforms for the healthcare industry, including products for oncology, advanced analytics, patient portal and integrated billing management. It is based in New York City. — Jason Scott
