Medtronic, Samsung Forge Diabetes Management Partnership

June 5, 2015

Medtronic and Samsung Electronics announced Friday a new strategic partnership to develop diabetes management products.

Their first collaboration will focus on developing applications for use with Samsung’s mobile devices that allow insulin pump and continuous glucose monitoring data viewing. The application will be designed to work with Medtronic’s MiniMed Connect, which enables quick access of diabetes information and sends remote alerts. The MiniMed Connect is set for U.S. launch in the next few months.

Medtronic, based in Dublin, Ireland, operates in more than 160 countries and has more than 260 locations.

Samsung Electronics, based in Ridgefield Park, N.J., employs about 307,000 people throughout 84 countries, posting annual sales of $196 billion.

The International Diabetes Federation estimates 387 million people worldwide have the disease. — Jason Scott
