BME Introduces Nitinol Bone Fixation Implant

June 8, 2015

BioMedical Enterprises announced the U.S. launch Friday of the first superelastic shape memory bone fixation system, the Speed Triad nitinol bone fixation implant for medial and dorsal placement along the distal first metatarsal.

The system is used to treat mild to moderate bunion deformities, enabling fast continuous compressive fixation of osteotomies, the company says.

Traditional bunion surgery can be time-consuming and cause complications, such as dorsal bone fracture or screws backing out. In contrast to these screw-based systems, the Speed Triad implant maintains compression through repetitive loading.

This is the San Antonio, Texas-based devicemaker’s fourth product launch this year. — Jason Scott
