Boston Scientific Touts Precision Spectra Spinal Cord Stimulator

June 10, 2015

In a clinical trial, Boston Scientific’s Precision Spectra demonstrated one-and-a-half more times overall pain relief and twice as much low back pain relief than an earlier spinal cord stimulation system, the devicemaker said Wednesday.

The Precision Spectra features 32 contacts, twice the number of the company’s Precision Plus system, and enables greater patient coverage of key pain areas. The improved outcomes were aided by Boston Scientific’s Illumina neural software, which helps target pain using three-dimensional imaging.

Last week, the devicemaker launched its Precision Novi SCS system in Europe, claiming the 16-contact primary cell system is the smallest of its kind to hit the market. That system is not available for sale in the U.S. — Jason Scott
