AdaptivCRT Lowers Heart Failure Readmittance, Study Finds

Patients hospitalized for heart failure demonstrated a significantly lower chance of readmittance within 30 days of discharge when treated with Medtronic’s cardiac resynchronization device, outfitted with an algorithm capable of automatically administering and adjusting therapy, according to a Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Heart Failure study published Wednesday.

The AdaptivCRTs were compared against standard CRT models equipped with echocardiography. CRT defibrillation devices deliver electrical impulses to the heart, helping the chambers beat in synchronization and bolstering heart pumping function.

The study found that AdaptiveCRTs reduced a patient’s likelihood of readmittance at 30 days by almost 60 percent.

In the U.S., 25 percent of the 1 million heart failure patients hospitalized will be readmitted within 30 days. — Jason Scott
