Merck Secures Gavi and Geri CE Mark Approval

June 15, 2015

Merck KGaA has gained CE Mark certification for two fertility technologies, Gavi and Geri, the German devicemaker announced Sunday.

Gavi bears the distinction as the world’s first vitrification instrument, the company says. Vitrification is an in-vitro fertilization process that allows the preservation of human embryos by cooling them to sub-zero temperatures.

Geri is a benchtop incubator comprised of individually controlled incubation chambers, capable of minimizing early stage disruptive events. It also features a camera system to capture images of the developing embryos.

Merck recently entered into a global collaboration agreement with Genea Biomedx, the manufacturer of both fertility technologies, which gave it worldwide marketing and commercialization rights. — Jason Scott
