Medtronic Acquires CardioInsight, Aptus

June 22, 2015

On Friday, Medtronic announced the acquisitions of CardioInsight Technologies and Aptus Endosystems for an estimated combined $203 million.

CardioInsight, a Cleveland -based devicemaker, will become part of Medtronic’s atrial fibrillation business. This will give Medtronic access to CardioInsight’s ECVUE system which noninvasively maps electrical heart disorders. That product is available in the U.S. and Europe.

Aptus Endosystems, which is based in Sunnyvale, Calif., develops endovascular aneurysm and thoracic endovascular aneurysm repair treatment technologies.

From Aptus, Medtronic will gain ownership of the Heli-FX and Heli-FX thoracic EndoAnchor systems which include an endovascular-deployed anchor that attaches aortic endografts. For select patients, these systems reduce the need for complicated or costly procedures, Medtronic says. Both Heli-FX systems are CE Marked and FDA-approved.

As stipulated by the Aptus deal, Medtronic will distribute the TourGuide steerable sheath in the U.S. and EU. — Jason Scott
