Alcon Gains CE Mark for Intraocular Lens Delivery System

Novartis subsidiary Alcon has won CE Mark certification for its AcrySof IQ aspheric IOL with the UltraSert pre-loaded delivery system for patients undergoing cataract surgery.

The system combines a manually loaded device with a disposable, pre-loaded injector, the Swiss devicemaker said.  In addition, the product features a spring-controlled mechanism that enables a smoother delivery into the eye.

The approval comes on the heels of the devicemaker’s AcrySof IOL for trifocal presbyopia-correction CE Mark last month.

According to company estimates, more than 3 million cataract surgeries are performed in Europe annually. — Jason Scott
