General Sleep Announces U.S. Launch of Zmachine Insight

July 13, 2015

General Sleep has announced the U.S. launch of its Zmachine Insight for home sleep monitoring.

The system enables researchers and medical professionals to gather sleep staging information from patients or research subjects, the Euclid, Ohio, devicemaker says, adding that the results are immediately available when the user awakes.

In contrast to available home sleep monitors that rely on the absence of movement to detect whether a user is asleep, the Insight uses three electroencephalography sensors placed behind the ears to measure brainwaves and determine when the user is awake.

Furthermore, the product differentiates every 30 seconds the type of sleep a user is experiencing: light sleep, slow wave sleep or REM sleep.

General Sleep is pursuing CE Mark certification, a spokesman told Device Daily Monday. — Jason Scott
