Valencia Technologies Gains Two Patents for New Technology

July 20, 2015

Valencia Technologies announced Monday the receipt of two additional U.S. patents for its tiny nuerostimulator, bringing the company’s total patents for the technology up to nine.

Developed under the principle that constant stimulation is not required to modulate a nerve, the coin-sized device can be implanted subcutaneously near any peripheral nerve, the Valencia, Calif., devicemaker says.

In addition, the product, which takes 20 minutes to implant, does not contain any lead wires.

Though the system will be evaluated first for hypertension in a clinical trial next year, CEO Jeff Greiner says the device has the potential to be used for other chronic conditions, such as depression, intractable pain, heart failure, Parkinson's disease and erectile dysfunction. — Jason Scott
