EMA Database Tracks Distribution of Medicines

July 21, 2015

The European Medicines Agency launched a website to track medicines authorized at the EU level.

The EMA created the website to allow the public to search for medicines on the market in one member state that are distributed in another by a company other than the manufacturer.

These companies, known in the EU as parallel distributors, must receive notification from the EMA before they can place a product on the market.

The EMA posts about 2,500 notices each year, indicating companies that have been cleared to distribute drugs across member state borders. The new website includes more than 15,000 such notices and will be updated monthly.
