Medrobotics Launches Flex Robotic System in U.S.

July 24, 2015

Raynham, Mass., devicemaker Medrobotics is launching its Flex robotic system for transoral procedures after receiving FDA 510(k) clearance.

Featuring a navigational flexible scope, the system is meant to improve surgical access and visualization in difficult to reach spaces within the surgical site, the company said Thursday. Specifically, it helps guide surgeons in the oropharynx, hypopharynx and larynx.

When a surgeon reaches a desired vantage point, the scope becomes rigid to form a stable platform. If surgeons need to extend their reach in the mouth or throat, the device can be paired with the Flex retractor to cover more area, the devicemaker adds.

The system received CE Mark certification in March, and is available in select European markets. — Jason Scott
