Miramar Wins FDA Nod for Underarm Hair Remover

Miramar Labs said Thursday that it has won expanded FDA 510(k) marketing clearance for its miraDry underarm hair removal system.

The company claims its system is the only FDA-approved technology for the permanent treatment of underarm hair of all colors and underarm sweat reduction.

In contrast to laser hair removal systems, the system relies on microwave energy which doesn’t require a chromophore to work, meaning the system isn’t limited on what hair colors and types it can treat, the Santa Clara, Calif., devicemaker says.

The hair removal treatment will be available to dermatologists and plastic surgeons beginning next month. — Jason Scott
