PTS Diagnostics Introduces Handheld Cotinine Device

July 28, 2015

PTS Diagnostics has launched the PTS Detect handheld fingerstick test system for tobacco-use detection, the Indianapolis, Ind., devicemaker said Tuesday.

The company says the system does not rely on a venous draw sent to a laboratory, instead providing quantitative results at the point of care. The product works by measuring cotinine levels, a byproduct of nicotine, in the blood stream, rendering results in five minutes and reducing the need for confirmatory tests.

The fingerstick test can measure all types of tobacco products, such as cigarettes, cigars and chewing tobacco, the devicemaker adds.
