Ulthera Receives FDA Clearance for Cellulite Reduction System

August 4, 2015

Merz subsidiary Ulthera received FDA clearance for its Cellfina system to reduce cellulite on the buttocks and thighs for up to two years.

The system combines proprietary technology with a minor surgical procedure called subcision to treat the structural cause of cellulite.

The company claims a clinical study of 55 patients who underwent a single treatment showed 98 percent reported improved appearance at two years and 96 percent were satisfied with their treatment. No severe device-related adverse effects were reported as a result of the treatment.

Merz is a specialty health care company that develops treatment solutions in aesthetics, dermatology and neurosciences in the U.S. and Canada. The system is expected to be available in the fall. — John Bechtel
