Health Canada Approves Sorin Group’s Perceval Sutureless Aortic Valve

August 6, 2015

Sorin Group has been granted clearance by Health Canada to market its Perceval sutureless aortic valve in the country.

The cardiovascular-focused solutions developer’s Perceval valve enables a surgeon to replace a diseased valve without sutures with the help of a self-anchoring frame. Traditional valves require between 15 and 18 sutures.

The Perceval valve reduces the time and complexity of the procedure, and maximizes the effective orifice area.

So far, the Perceval valve has been implanted in more than 12,000 patients in 34 countries across the world. It is being reviewed by the FDA. —Michael Cipriano
