Mesa Laboratories Acquires Dental Sterilizer Testing Business

Mesa Laboratories has acquired most of the assets of dental sterilizer testing business North Bay Bioscience for $11.25 million.

The bulk of North Bay’s business involves weekly testing, using biological indicators, of table-top sterilizers used in the U.S. dental industry to determine if they meet federal and state standards.

North Bay delivers a kit containing enough biological indicators for 52 weeks of testing. Dental practices mail the weekly test kits back to North Bay to determine if their sterilizer is working correctly. The company also distributes systems in the U.S. and Canada so that dentists can analyze their sterilizers in-house.

Mesa retained all North Bay employees, including the management team, and will continue to operate the business from North Bay’s Traverse City, Mich., facilities. — John Bechtel
