DexCom, Google Team Up on Next-Generation Continuous Glucose Monitors

August 12, 2015

San Diego-based DexCom and Google Life Sciences inked an agreement to co-develop a series of continuous glucose monitors using Googles miniaturized electronics platform and DexCom’s sensor technology.

The first products developed under the collaboration will be disposable CGM components to be worn on the body.

“The goal is to empower more people to control their diabetes with real-time and actionable information by developing a low-cost, small, bandage-sized sensor that is connected to the cloud,” the firms say.

Under the agreement, DexCom will pay Google an initial upfront payment plus milestone payments, and will retain sales and distribution rights to the products. Google will be entitled to revenue-based royalties. — Meg BryantÂ
