Assurex Claims GeneSight Testing Saves $1,036 Annually for Prescriptions

August 12, 2015

Assurex Health says a study shows patients being treated for behavioral health issues saved an average of $1,036 in annual prescriptions when healthcare providers used its GeneSight combinatorial pharmacogenomics test results to guide treatment decisions.

According to Assurex, the test measures clinically important genomic variants for each patient and weighs them together to provide comprehensive genetically driven recommendations for each prescribed medication.

The study of 13,000 patients found that annual savings were substantial regardless of treatment by psychiatrists, primary care physicians or other healthcare professionals. Testing also improved patients’ adherence to prescribed treatment by 17 percent, Assurex says, adding that one in five patients were prescribed fewer medications.
