Uptake Medical Gets CE Mark for Emphysema Treatment

Uptake Medical said Wednesday that it has received the CE Mark for its InterVapor system to treat patients in Europe who have heterogeneous upper lobe emphysema.

The device uses heated water vapor to achieve bronchoscopic lung volume reduction in emphysema patients. The CE mark follows a multicenter randomized-controlled study of patients in Europe and Australia.

The InterVapor platform is now being tested in regional lung tumor ablation in patients with early stage lung cancer and lung metastases.

Founded in 2005, the Tustin, Calif. company focuses on the treatment of lung cancer and emphysema without the risks of surgery and implants or radiation. — John Bechtel
