FDA Clears Bovie’s New J-Plasma Pistol Grip Configurations

August 31, 2015

Bovie Medical plans to roll out six new hand piece configurations for its J-Plasma pistol grip portfolio in September, following receipt of FDA 510(k) clearance.

In addition to the existing 27 cm length, the pistol grip hand piece will now be available with instrument lengths of 15 cm, 33 cm and 45 cm. The new pieces will also be available with a new needle configuration, along with the standard blade configuration.

J-Plasma is a plasma-based surgical product for cutting and coagulation that utilizes helium to produce a stable, focused beam of ionized gas. This minimizes invasiveness, increases surgical precision and avoids conductive currents through the patient during surgery, the company says. — Michael Cipriano
