St. Jude Receives CE Mark Approval for Deep Brain Stimulation System

September 23, 2015

St. Jude Medical has received CE Mark approval for its Deep Brain Stimulation System and directional DBS lead.

The system, which aims to battle movement disorders, features Bluetooth wireless technology to communicate between the DBS platform and Apple digital devices used as patient and physician controllers.

It consists of a surgically implanted neurostimulator which delivers mild electrical pulses to specific targets in the brain to stimulate the structures involved in motor control.

According to St. Jude, the system provides an improved, more intuitive experience for patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease, tremor and dystonia. — Michael Cipriano
