Varian Receives FDA Clearance, CE Mark for VitalBeam Platform

Palo Alto, Calif.-based Varian Medical Systems has received FDA 510(k) clearance and CE Mark for its VitalBeam platform, an advanced radiotherapy device.

The Chirayu Medical College and Hospital in Bhopal, India, was among the first to acquire the device.

T. P. Sahoo, a physician at the CMCH, says the device can complete image-guided treatments in as little as two to four minutes.

Sahoo added that system will be used to treat patients with tumors in vital locations where toxicity to healthy tissues must be minimized. — Michael Cipriano
