Pressure BioSciences and FIU Partner to Develop Rape Kit Test Method

October 19, 2015

Pressure BioSciences has reached a collaborative research and development agreement with Florida International University to develop a rape kit test method based on Pressure’s PCT platform.

Scientists believe that a test method focused on the advantages of pressure cycling technology could help reduce the estimated backlog of 400,000 untested rape kits in the U.S.

The PCT-based technique aims to decrease processing times and provide improved sample recovery.

The recovery of high quality DNA from the current cotton swab tests is difficult because the biological sample is often trapped in the swab's cotton fibers, resulting in a loss of evidence. — Michael Cipriano
