Health Canada Green Lights MolecuLight Imaging Device

Toronto, Ontario, devicemaker MolecuLight has received approval from Health Canada for its MolecuLight i:X imaging system.

The handheld fluorescence imaging device provides real-time visualization of bacteria in chronic wounds, allowing clinicians to precisely target potential infections and initiate targeted treatment plans, the Toronto, the firm says.

Being able to quickly spot bacteria in chronic wounds is especially important in patients with weakened immune systems, MolecuLight adds.

Study results in more than 180 patients showed the device improves sample quality and healing rates and helps to detect heavy bacterial load in wound subsurfaces, the company says. — Michael Cipriano
