Samsung Electronics Unveils Bio-Processor

Samsung Electronics has announced the production of its Bio-Processor, a chip designed to enable accelerated development of wearable products for patients monitoring their health and fitness on a daily basis.

The chip processes the bio-signals it measures without the need of external processing parts with the help of a microcontroller unit, power management integrated and digital signal processor.

The Bio-Processor also integrates five analog front ends to measure body fat, skeletal muscle mass, heart rate, heart rhythm, skin temperature and stress level.

Samsung’s device is currently in mass production with a planned launch in the first half of 2016. — Michael Cipriano
