Explosions at Chinese Warehouse Spark FDA Alert to Compounders

December 30, 2015

In the wake of two explosions at a Tianjin, China, chemical warehouse, the FDA is alerting drug compounders and manufacturers to take measures to ensure the quality of products shipped from that area, as they may be contaminated.

The agency says it has ramped up surveillance of drug shipments after the incident at Tianjin Dongjiang Port Ruihai International Logistics in August. Already, the agency says hydrogen cyanide has been detected in two drug shipments of drugs from Tianjin Tianyao Pharmaceuticals, which is about 18 miles from the explosion site. Other shipments have tested negative and been released.
