California Assemblyman Yanks Drug Transparency Bill

January 20, 2016

A California state assemblyman has pulled his drug transparency bill from the legislative body’s Committee on Health agenda due to a lack of support from fellow lawmakers.

The legislation would require prescription drugmakers selling products in California with a wholesale cost of $10,000 or more per treatment course to file a report with the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development. The report would require information such as production and marketing costs, as well as the total profit attributable to the drug.

The bill has drawn opposition from several drugmakers and trade groups. David Chiu (D-San Francisco) introduced the Pharmaceutical Cost Transparency Act in February 2015. Read the bill here: www.fdanews.com/01-13-16-DrugTransparencyBill.pdf.
