Surgical Specialties Corp. Acquires FSSB Chirurgische Nadein GMBH

January 26, 2016

Massachusetts-based Surgical Specialties Corp. has acquired German needle and suture manufacturer FSSB Chirurgische Nadein GMBH and affiliated entities, the companies have announced.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The combination creates one of the largest — if not the largest — manufacturer of surgical needles globally, says Victor Diaz, president and chief operating officer of Surgical Specialties.

SSC provides branded, private-label and OEM medical devices for advanced surgery, wound closure, ophthalmology and radiology.

FSSB provides micro, ophthalmic and standard surgical needles for surgery. FSSB also works with partners to attach the needles to sutures used in ophthalmic, cardiovascular and sternotomy procedures.

FSSB is headquartered in Jestetten, Germany, with manufacturing in Jestetten and a larger manufacturing plant in Poessneck, Germany. — Jonathon Shacat
