California Medicine Company Recalls Morphine-laced Cough Syrup

January 27, 2016

An herbal medicine company in California is recalling all of its Licorice Coughing Liquid cough syrup after morphine was found in some bottles, according to an FDA release.

Pomona-based Master Herbs is recalling all lots of the product sold in 100 ml containers, mostly to Chinese grocery stores in California, Hawaii, Illinois, Ohio, Nevada and New Jersey. It does not indicate how many lots are involved.

According to the release, while the packaging states that it includes compound camphor — which can contain opioids like morphine, the labeling did not list it among its ingredients. There have been no reports of adverse events thus far. Read the recall notice here: www.fdanews.com/01-21-16-MasterHerbsInc.pdf.
