MannKind Founder Dies at Age 90

February 26, 2016

Days after announcing his retirement, MannKind founder Alfred Mann has died.

Mann, 90, gave notice Feb. 17 that he was stepping down as chairman of the company’s board. In a statement, the company notes that no changes are anticipated in its day-to-day business activities.

"Al's contribution to the diabetes field is unparalleled, and he truly represents an iconic influence in the philanthropic and business arena for our generation. I'm honored to have worked for so many years with Al, and am proud to have called him my friend," said Kent Kresa, chairman of the board of MannKind.

According to the statement, Mann founded and largely funded 14 companies during his career. — Elizabeth Hollis
