Congressman Rebukes FDA Over Budget Request

March 2, 2016

Lawmakers grilled FDA interim Commissioner Stephen Ostroff during a budget appropriations subcommittee hearing last week over the agency’s request for $5.1 billion for fiscal 2017.

Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Ala.), chairman of the Agriculture, Rural Development, FDA and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, slammed the agency’s proposal to collect additional user fees.

Aderholt said the FDA doesn’t provide any evidence to show that current efforts are effective or that the resources requested for new user fees would result in better service.
