Senate Bill Aims to Eliminate Tax Breaks for DTC

Another federal lawmaker is taking aim at DTC drug ads by proposing to eliminate pharmaceutical tax breaks for these promotions.

Dubbed the “Protecting Americans from Drug Marketing Act,” the measure would deny deductions for advertising and promotional expenses for prescription drugs.  Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) introduced the bill March 3.

The proposal comes several weeks after Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) unveiled a bill that would ban DTC for prescription drugs altogether.
