Pfizer, IBM to Collaborate on Parkinson’s Disease Research

April 7, 2016

Pfizer will be collaborating with IBM to develop remote monitoring solutions targeting care for patients with Parkinson’s disease, the companies announced Thursday, with the objective of accelerating development of therapeutic options.

The collaboration will depend on a system of sensors, mobile devices and machine learning to measure motor function, dyskinesia, cognition, sleep and daily activities.

Approximately 7 million to 10 million people suffer from Parkinson’s disease worldwide, according to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation. — Anisa Jibrell
