Valeant Increases Hospital Rebates for Nitropress, Isuprel

As part of its new focus on price controls, Valeant Pharmaceuticals International has increased rebates to hospitals for two of its drugs: Nitropress and Isuprel.

Valeant says it will offer all hospitals a rebate between 10 percent to 40 percent on the drugs that will depend on the quantity purchased every quarter. The rebate program, which takes effect immediately, will be conducted primarily through group purchasing organizations, although hospitals can obtain the rebates directly from Valeant if they don’t use a GPO.

The rebates were recommended by the company’s newly formed Patient Access and Pricing Committee, which was created in response to congressional criticism over the company’s price hikes.
