Health Canada Greenlights Intercept Blood System
May 23, 2016
Health Canada has granted approval to Cerus’ Intercept blood system, which is designed for the ex vivo preparation of whole blood-derived and apheresis plasma to minimize the risk of transfusion-transmitted infections.
The system is designed to inactivate a range of viruses, bacteria, parasites and harmful white blood cells to improve the safety of donated blood.
The system was approved in Europe and the U.S. in 2002 and 2014, respectively. — Anisa Jibrell
